Our secluded garden provides a tranquil sanctuary for those looking to relax. The following give some information on activities and attractions in the local area. Most of our bedrooms have breathtaking views.

Fr. Murphy Centre - Boolavogue

Fr. Murphy Centre - BoolavogueIt commemorates the memory of Fr. John Murphy. The centre contains a number of authentic out-houses which illustrate the way of life on an Irish farm during the 18th and 19th Century. Many old farm implements are on display. A craft and coffee shop are available on-site.

Dunbrody Heritage Ship

Dunbrody Heritage ShipBased in New Ross, the Dunbrody Heritage Ship is a full scale reproduction of a 19th century famine ship. It is also an authentic replica of the Three Masted Barque built for the Graves family of New Ross.

 

 

Duncannon Military Fort

Hook Lighthouse and Peninsula

Hook Lighthouse and Peninsula

Hook Lighthouse is one of the oldest operational lighthouses in Europe. It dates back from the 12th century. It includes a Visitor Centre and a craft and coffee shop which is opened to the public. William Marshall Earl of Pembrokeshire undertook the building of the lighthouse in the early 13th century as a navigational aid to guide his ships into Waterford Harbour.

Johnstown castle

Johnstown castleA neo-Gothic castle just outside Wexford Town is surrounded by 20 hectares of gardens with a magnificent range of shrubs. The Irish Agricultural Museum is also based here. The mature woodlands and lakes of this demesne provide the perfect setting for this turreted castle, built between 1810 and 1855 and incorporating part of a more ancient castle.

The National Irish Heritage Park

The National Irish Heritage ParkThe Irish National Heritage Park located in Ferrycarrig, is only 15 minutes from Carrigbyrne Lodge. The Park contains 14 historical reconstructions depicting Ireland's heritage from the Stone Age to the arrival of the Normans in 1169.

 

The John F. Kennedy Arboretum

The National Irish Heritage ParkThe John F. Kennedy Arboretum, on 252 hectares contains over 4,500 types of trees and shrubs, viewing point, tea room and visitor centre with an audio-visual show. There is also a miniature railway for children and a duck filled lake.

Tintern Abbey

Tintern AbbeyA Cistercian Abbey founded in c.1200 by William, the Earl Marshall and named after Tintern in Wales. Tearooms, toilets and car park exhibitions are opened to the public during the summer months.

 

Our Lady's Island

Our Lady's IslandSituated between Rosslare and Kilmore Quay. This is a famous religious pilgrimage venue, it is also an area of International importance for its wildlife.

 

 

 

 

National 1798 Centre, Enniscorthy

National 1798 Centre, EnniscorthyThe National 1798 visitor centre traces the Rebellion of 1798 in County Wexford, together with events as they happened in Europe, United States and Australia. The Revolution experience is a dramatic audio visual display using a curved screen to simulate the battle of Vinegar Hill and is the highlight of the show.

Wexford Wildlife Reserve

Wexford Wildlife ReserveWexford is widely known as the best county in Ireland for bird watching. This is a well-equipped visitor centre and has many exhibitions and an informative audio visual show. The park is sign-posted just outside Wexford town on the R741 between Ferrybank and Castlebridge.

Walking

If you would like to base yourself in New Ross for a few days or a week, we can offer a varied programme of guided walks to suit all tastes. Including:
Carrigbyrne Hill – 5 km trail through a forest of mainly coniferous trees.
Dunamore – 1 km walk is rich with birdlife, oak and beach and red squirrel.
JFK Park – 252h with planned walks and covers 4500 species of shrubs from 5 continents.
The Three Rocks Trail – 8km long trail across Fort Mountain and Shelmalier. Great views of landmarks and archaeological sites.
Tintern Abbey Trails – 3km of trail with 200 year old beech and oak. Tranquil woodland where foxes, badgers, rabbits and hedgehogs can be seen.
Castlebridge – Costal walks includes shore, beach, cliff and slob land walks.
Wexford Town – Organised tours of Wexford town.
Curracloe Nature Trail - a delightful 800 metre nature trail through the seashore sand dunes

Within easy reach are the courses in Enniscorthy and the famous Mount Juliet, designed by Jack Nicklaus, located beside the river Nore. Wexford Golf Club is within minutes of the house. Rosslare Golf Club and St. Helen's Bay Golf Club are within 20 minutes drive. Scarke Golf Club & Driving Range is situated just 5 minutes from Carrigbyrne Lodge and New Ross Golf Club is only 10 minutes away in Tinneranny, Rosbercon, New Ross.

With horse riding being such a popular leisure activity in Wexford, there is a selection of excellent equestrian centres to choose from. Local Equestrian Centres include, Glenmoor Riding School, Fethard–On-Sea New Ross, Ballyhealy House, Seaview, Kilmore, Shelmalier Riding Stable and Curracloe House Equestrian Centre.

Shore angling is also very popular. Wexford County possesses many clean rivers and lakes to cater for the coarse and game angler.

With miles and miles of unspoilt golden strand and secluded coves, four Blue Flag awards and more hours of sunshine than any other part of Ireland make Wexford a beach lovers paradise. Our favourite, Duncannon, is only 20 minutes away. This is an unspoilt spectacular beach.

Bird Watching

The North Slobs is where half the worlds Greenland White fronted Geese winter. The Little Tern, one of Ireland's rarest breeding sea birds, also nests on sand banks nearby. There is a very informative Visitor Centre close by.

You can find an endless variety of cycling routes, including small mountain roads, broad river valleys, and a picturesque coastline. It can be easy if you pick a route along the Slaney or Barrow rivers, cross the Blackstairs mountains or head for the Carrigbyrne Hill. We can suggest cycling routes and provide information about cycle hire.

Co. Wexford Strawberry Fair, Enniscorthy (July) – Events include well known bands art exhibitions, kids workshops, sports, circus, busking, fireworks and street entertainment.

Dunbrody Festival New Ross.(July) - Various activities.

Wexford Opera Festival - Staged annually in The Theatre Royal, Wexford. It draws audiences and artists from all over the world. 2001 celebrated the 50th anniversary of this festival. For opera lovers, its a unique chance to see full staging of lesser-known works by great composers, plus a wide programme of recitals, concerts and lectures.

Festival of Lughnasa, Adamstown (August) – Treasure Hunt, Car Boot sales, Fun and Games. Live music. Special category for Under 5 years old.

Hooves and Grooves Festival, Wexford – (July) – Events include horse racing harness racing free gigs, street entertainment, arts and crafts markers and puppet shows.
